Nexcopy Introduces USB encryption for Mac and PC Computers

Nexcopy releases USB flash drives with encryption technology that works seamlessly in both Mac and PC computers.

Nexcopy Inc., a leading provider in USB copy protection technology, now offers USB flash drives with encryption capabilities that function across both Mac and Windows computers. With companies using cross-platform computer systems, it is increasingly important to provide users with a secure encryption solution where files can be decrypted on either a Mac computer or a Windows PC.

  • Encrypt files using 256-bit AES encryption
  • Decrypt files on a Mac computer
  • Decrypt files on a Windows computer
  • The USB drive is also write protected, an industry-exclusive feature
  • Write protection is configured at the controller level
  • Reset drives through Nexcopy software to repurpose media
  • Encryption solution available exclusively for Nexcopy flash drives

“BitLocker from Microsoft and the deprecated TrueCrypt software are not viable solutions for those looking to decrypt files on a Mac computer, a Windows PC computer, or both,” states Greg Morris, President of Nexcopy Inc. “The number of Mac users has increased dramatically over the past five years and many of those users also have access to Windows machines. These users need an encryption solution that is easy to use and fully cross-platform.”

There is a subtle difference between copy protection and encryption, and it is important to understand the distinction. Nexcopy defines copy protection as the ability to view a file while preventing it from being saved or shared with others. Encryption, on the other hand, is a password-protected solution where a user cannot access any data until the correct passcode is entered. Nexcopy offers both technologies to complement different levels of security requirements.

Nexcopy encryption differs from traditional encrypted flash drives. The conventional approach uses a large encrypted “container” where files can be added or removed dynamically. Nexcopy’s USB encryption instead focuses on secure data deployment. The encrypted content is locked to the drive with an additional layer of hardware-based write protection.

Nexcopy’s approach means the drive is write protected at the controller level. This prevents viruses or malware from infecting the drive. In addition, it allows content to remain locked and controlled at the corporate level. Users cannot edit, modify, or update the encrypted content. This approach makes Nexcopy’s encryption solution ideal for software deployment, distribution of sensitive information, and archival purposes.

The USB encryption solution by Nexcopy requires the Copy Secure data load utility to encrypt the content and lock the drive. Nexcopy offers a free utility capable of encrypting three drives at a time on a Windows host computer. For larger production requirements, the Nexcopy USB duplicator is available to data load and encrypt up to 20 drives simultaneously.

Morris continues, “Nexcopy is aware that small production runs are equally important as large-scale production requirements where encryption is necessary. For this reason, Nexcopy developed a utility application capable of encrypting and loading up to three drives at a time, while the USB200PRO duplicator provides a larger production station capable of producing 20 encrypted USB drives simultaneously.”

Nexcopy offers USB encryption in both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 technology. Capacities range from 2GB up to 64GB, with larger capacities planned as flash memory technology continues to evolve.

Nexcopy’s complete line of USB encrypted drives, USB copy-protected drives, USB printers, USB duplicators, CF duplicators, SD duplicators, and microSD duplicators are available through a worldwide network of authorized resellers.
