How can I tell if my computer is USB 2.0 compliant?

Many computer manufacturers do not clearly mark USB port versions so in order to find an answer to this, viewing the Device Manager is required.

  1. Open the Device Manager.
  2. In the “Device Manager” window, click the Expand icon (either a + or a > symbol) next to Universal Serial Bus controllers. You will see a list of the USB ports installed on your computer.
    • If your USB port name contains “Universal Host”, your port is version 1.1.
    • If the port name contains both “Universal Host” and “Enhanced Host”, your port is version 2.0.
    • If the port name contains “USB 3.0”, your port is version 3.0.

enhanced

Note: These versions are backwards compatible e.g. if your machine supports USB 3.0, then it will also support USB 2.0 devices.

Why do I need Windows .NET Frameworks?

The Nexcopy USB duplication software is based on the powerful multi-threading technologies of Microsoft operating systems. The .NET Framework allows Nexcopy to optimize the software performance and standardize certain aspects of the software GUI interface. This is a necessary software component for the USB200PC USB Copier.

How to Fix: “Nexcopy Drive Manager cannot be installed on systems with .NET Framework versions smaller than 2.0”?

Can I run virtual Windows to run Nexcopy software?

The Nexcopy USB duplication software is tested to run on Windows machines designed to run Microsoft Windows operating systems. If the Nexcopy Drive Manager software is installed on a virtual machine, we cannot guarantee compatibility.

How do I check my system for Windows .NET Frameworks?

To check your computer for Windows .NET Frameworks do the following:

  1. On the Start menu, choose Run.
  2. In the Open box, enter regedit.exe.
You must have administrative credentials to run regedit.exe.
  3. In the Registry Editor, open the following subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full

Note that the path to the Full subkey includes the subkey Net Framework rather than .NET Framework.
If the Full subkey is not present, then you do not have the .NET Framework 4.5 or later installed.

  4. Check for a DWORD value named Release. The existence of the Release DWORD indicates that the .NET Framework 4.5 or newer has been installed on that computer.

Where can I get/download Windows .NET Frameworks?

You can download the Windows .NET Framework from the following link. Please note, as a general rule, always keep your Windows operating system up to date. Associated updates, including ones for your .NET framework, are bundled with standard Windows Updates within Redistributable Packages.

What is a USB CD-ROM Partition?

A USB CD-ROM partition is a partition of a flash drive which emulates a CD, this in turn instructs the host computer to treat the USB device as if it’s a CD-ROM device. The USB CD-ROM partition is a read only partition where the content cannot be deleted, formatted or changed. To create such a device, at the controller level, the Nexcopy USB200PRO along with certified media will create CD-ROM partitions.

What is a USB Read Only Partition?

A USB Read Only partition is a partition on a flash drive which contains data that cannot be deleted or formatted or changed. A USB Read Only partition can only be created through specific IC logic on the flash drive. Not all flash drives are capable of a Read Only partition. To create such a device at the controller level, the Nexcopy USB200PRO along with certified media will create Read Only partitions.

What is a USB Write Protected Partition?

A USB Write Protected partition is a partition on a flash drive which contains data that cannot be deleted or formatted or changed. Write Protection is the same as a USB Read Only device. Write Protection can only be created on a USB stick with specific hardware components. Not all flash drives have the correct hardware to create USB Write Protection. To create a device which is Write Protected the Nexcopy USB Write Protect Duplicator [USB200PRO] along with certified media will create Write Protected partitions.

What is USB “Over Current” protection?

Over Current Protection will prevent self-powered USB devices, such as USB flash memory, from driving current back into the computer and create possible damage to internal circuits of the host PC computer.

Will the USB Duplicator work with different mix of flash drives during the duplication job?

Yes. The USB200PC will copy to different manufacturers of flash memory. Nexcopy supports this function to provide a better customer experience and ease of operation.

Can I use different flash drive memory sizes on the USB Copier system?

Yes. The USB200PC will copy to any group of flash memory sizes. Please note, there are other considerations when using different media sizes; such as flash memory performance, flash drive format and overall speed and performance.

Can the USB Duplicator copy to different flash media types?

Yes. The USB200PC will copy to any flash media type. However, you will need adapters to connect the device to the USB ports of the USB Copier. You should consult Nexcopy before considering a purchase of flash memory adapters as these adapters vary in speed and performance.

Will my USB stick work on USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 computers?

The beautiful thing about USB is backward compatibility. USB 2.0 devices will work with USB 1.0 computers, ports, cards and systems – although performance will be significantly less as a USB 1.0 system can only perform at it’s rated speed (which is about 12Mbps). Likewise, USB 1.0 products will work with USB 2.0 computers, ports, cards and systems and will performa at it’s highest rated speed.

I don’t want the Windows pop-up window when a USB stick is plugged into the computer – how do I turn this off?

To disable the AutoPlay pop up window each time a USB device is connected to your host computer for the USB duplicator, do the following:
Click Start &raquo  Run. Type in “gpedit.msc” and click OK. A Group Policy window pops up, so now navigate to Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates > System.

disable popup

On the right side of the Group Policy pop-up window you will see “Turn off Autoplay” (you may need to scroll down some). Double click. For the “Turn off Autoplay Properties” dialogue box, click the radial button: Enable then select “All Drives” from the pull down menu. Click OK or Apply.

Please note, this procedure also disables the Autoplay for your CD drive.

Do I need to “eject” the USB stick through the Windows utility after the duplication job is complete?

No. Using the “Eject” button in the Drive Manager software will perform all needed tasks to release the flash memory from the operating system.

What is the best way to clean the brushed aluminum front of the USB200PC?

Using Windex will keep the brushed metal clean from finger prints and other marks. Be sure NOT to spray the equipment directly, but rather spray the towel first, then wipe clean.
